DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Keolis-MHI, the operator of Dubai Metro and Tram, has unveiled a new Safety and Public Transport Etiquette Campaign aimed at improving passenger experience, safety, and comfort across Dubai’s rail networks.

The initiative forms part of RTA’s ongoing commitment to world-class standards of public transport.

Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operations at RTA’s Rail Agency, said: “The campaign reinforces courteous and responsible passenger behaviour. It highlights practices such as proper cabin selection, giving priority seating to people of determination and senior citizens, keeping doorways clear, and respecting fellow commuters’ privacy. With Dubai Metro and Tram recognised as among the most efficient transport systems globally, we aim to ensure every journey meets the highest safety and comfort standards.”

Promoting courtesy

The campaign seeks to enhance passenger experience by reducing risks, ensuring a safe environment, and improving passenger flow within trains and stations. By preventing obstruction and encouraging responsible behaviour, the initiative contributes to operational efficiency and the overall quality of services provided to commuters.

Al Mutawa explained that the initiative employs a comprehensive communication ecosystem, including guidance materials inside Metro and Tram carriages, digital screens, awareness signage at stations, and social media platforms. “This multi-channel approach ensures that awareness messages reach all segments of the community, catering to different age groups and passenger profiles,” he added.

Staff engagement

Frontline teams, including Customer Happiness staff, ticket inspectors, and operational teams, are central to the campaign’s success. “Through daily interaction, guidance, and real-time assistance, our teams help reinforce safety and etiquette messages, ensuring smoother, safer, and more comfortable journeys,” said Al Mutawa.

Driving smart mobility

The campaign complements RTA’s broader strategy to develop Dubai’s public transport network and deliver innovative, smart solutions for residents and visitors. Al Mutawa highlighted: “Public transport is a shared space, and maintaining its safety is a collective responsibility. This initiative reinforces the culture of respect and awareness that distinguishes Dubai and aligns with the emirate’s vision for sustainable and smart mobility.”

The Safety and Public Transport Etiquette Campaign underlines RTA’s commitment to safety, inclusivity, and operational efficiency, reflecting Dubai’s ambition to strengthen its position as a global leader in urban transport.
